Last week I jumped in, headfirst, to a real challenge, a muddy challenge. Now when I say headfirst, I literally mean that since on the very first obstacle I slipped and fell in the mud pit. Although years ago, I had done an obstacle course, I had never done one like Mudgirl. An all-female, breast cancer fundraiser where the goal is to make you push yourself, laugh, get super muddy and meet like-minded women who are all there for different reasons but with the same end goal...to cross the finish line.
It was a very long day as we chose to drive the 2 1/2 hours there and home after the race but one, we so thoroughly enjoyed. I feel like we were 7 yr olds who had just come back from a field trip to the zoo as we sat at Pappasitos having margs and chips and queso. We relaxed there excitedly telling my daughter, who came to meet us for lunch, every single detail. We all talked over each, laughed, told our versions of how and why we loved it and made a plan to do it again as soon as we could. Now mind you I was sore and slept the entire next day, a little embarrassed to admit, but man was it worth it.
Take every opportunity to challenge yourself, and if you get the chance to do it with friends like I did, even better. Was I the slowest runner out of our group, of course, was I out of my comfort zone on the some of the obstacles, of course, but did I feel proud and accomplished afterwards, OF COURSE!
